Metro North Hospital and Health Service’s objective 

To deliver a major expansion of service capacity at Caboolture Hospital to meet the growing needs of its catchment population over the next decade.

Background

The redevelopment will comprise a major new clinical service building, which is connected with the existing hospital. It also involves refurbishment of selected existing areas of the hospital for their future re-use. It includes:

  • a new main entry / front of house 
  • a patient transit hub
  • a new and expanded emergency department and satellite medical imaging department
  • expansion of operating theatres, stage 1 and 2 recovery, support, sterilisation, and contemporary fit out for endoscopy
  • expansion of the intensive care unit and coronary care unit
  • expansion of acute medical beds
  • establishment of sub-acute services including geriatric evaluation and management, rehabilitation, and palliative care
  • establishment of a day medical unit
  • expansion of the special care nursery
  • expansion of clinical support services including pathology, pharmacy and medical records, and
  • expansion of facility support services.

Johnstaff’s role

Johnstaff was engaged as Project Manager and Editor-in-Chief for the development of the Detailed Business Case for the Caboolture Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1.

Addressing the issues

Johnstaff delivered the Detailed Business Case in line with Building Queensland’s Business Case Development Framework, and in close collaboration with Building Queensland, Metro North Hospital and Health Service, Queensland Department of Health and Queensland Government agencies. The Detailed Business Case was endorsed by the Queensland Government, with the project proceeding into the delivery phase.
