Crown Casino opened initially in 1994 at the World Trade Centre, located on the north bank of the Yarra River. In 1997, it moved to a state-of-the-art complex constructed in Southbank. The Southbank entertainment complex is Australia’s largest casino and entertainment precinct and the largest casino complex in the southern hemisphere.
In addition to the gaming operations, the complex offers a wide range of retail outlets, restaurants and bars, hotel accommodation and sporting facilities.
Johnstaff was engaged by Hudson Conway during the design phase of the project to provide a purpose-built electronic programming system to ensure that the design process didn’t delay the facility’s building contractor, Grocon.
We also provided contractual claim services to Hudson Conway.
Using our purpose-built system, we managed effective programme direction of a design team of more than 300 professionals. This involved closely monitoring the design progress, identifying priority design issues critical to construction and expediting those critical design elements.
As part of our work, we conducted ongoing reviews of the various design disciplines and provided priority design direction to avoid construction delay.
Johnstaff’s role was expanded to include detailed monitoring of the construction progress against programme during the construction phase.
We were also subsequently engaged to analyse various subcontract delays claims and variations and to assist Hudson Conway to negotiate their settlement without recourse to litigation.
